Original Japanese version. Tako, advertising director of Pacific Pharmaceuticals, is frustrated by the low viewership of their sponsored documentary show and realizes that he needs a more sensationalist approach. Tako orders two of his men, Sakurai and Furue, on an expedition to Faro Island to investigate a legendary monster called King Kong and exploit it for advertising. Just as the expedition is underway, Godzilla emerges from an iceberg and sets his sights towards Japan, sparking a media frenzy that steals publicity away from Tako's own monster. As Kong is captured and hauled back to Japan, people begin to wonder which monster is stronger and capable of beating the other. Tako realizes the marketability of King Kong facing off against Godzilla as the two monsters are pitted against each other in the biggest wrestling match of all time.—Plotjira

When a mechanical replica of King Kong is unable to dig for the highly radioactive Element X at the North Pole, the evil Doctor Who and his sponsor Madame Piranha (Madame X in the American release) decide to kidnap the real Kong. As an insurance policy they kidnap Lt. Susan Miller as well as her boyfriend Lt. CommanderJiro Nomura and Cmdr. Carl Nelson (Kong developed a crush on Susan when she Nomura and Nelson visited the Kong at his home on Mondo Island). Kong later escapes and heads for Tokyo. Susan and the others also escape. Who and his minions follow him and activate Mechani-Kong in order to recapture him. Susan is then grabbed by the robot and is taken to the top of Tokyo Tower and a battle ensues between Kong and his robotic replica.—Brian Washington

A young lord attempts to combat the corruption endemic to the Shogunate bureaucracy, only to be placed in an impossible conflict of duties. He refuses to pay the "customary" bribe expected by a Chancellor sent from the Shogunate to teach him the etiquette for receiving envoys from the Emperor. In revenge, the Chancellor goads the lord into drawing his sword when the envoys are present, a crime punishable by death. The young lord is forced to commit ritual suicide for this crime. His vassals are ordered to turn over their lords estate for confiscation, forbidden to take revenge for their lords death, then disbanded as a clan. To obey the Shogun, the lords former samurai must follow those orders, but to be loyal to oaths they swore to their lord and have justice, they must avenge him. This conflict of obligations is the primary dilemma in Japanese society, which is why this story is considered their national epic. The story is richly woven and the film worth seeing for the gorgeous art works, buildings, and costumes of 18th century Japan alone.

Liberated from a slave auction, Osami joins with priest Ensai on a quest to find and deliver relics of the Buddha to Osami's brother in the Middle East for transport to Japan. They join with a camel caravan crossing the vast western desert, then are captured by a tyrant king. The king, who has lost his belief in the goodness of man, allows Osami the chance to complete the delivery of the relics to his brother on the promise that Osami return within three days to suffer burning at the stake. If Osami does not return in time, the innocent Ensai will die in his stead.

The giant ape is capture and returned to Japan, upon which it escapes and heads off on a collision course straight towards Godzilla.
