Wesley and Natalie realize that, although they love each other, their marriage would not be happy because they are only together for their parents. Although initially angry, Walter accepts this. Wesley tells Walter that he sabotages and ruins everything good that comes into his life and he can't help him with it anymore and if that's how he wants to live, then he won't do that with Walter.Wesley tells Lindsey he is going to Nigeria and invites Lindsey and Ariel along. The journey that August King takes is one of faith. He is conflicted with what the world tells him in the here and now and resists any idea that he is connected to the plight of this young woman. His journey is a metamorphosis. During this journey he changes and grows in his faith without ever realizing it -- at each turn he is making the critical decision to not only help someone, but to take a leap of faith -- a faith that his wife tried to persuade him exists but one in which he does not immediately believe. He is called upon by a higher power and sees this only at the moment he loses everything. The beauty of it is that he gains everything in the interim. This film is full of symbolism and Biblical references that integral to the plot and affords the viewer an opportunity to experience what it means to chose between right and wrong, good and evil in an almost alcoholic way -- day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second. We cannot know in advance, what our mission is in life we can only make critical decision one at a time until the entire mission is revealed. Jason Patric's performance is excellent as well as a performance by Thandie Newton -- before she becomes well known through other films yet to come. As a person involved in the slavery film 12 Years a Slave, I must say that this film in many ways is just as riveting and important in the telling of American History and the nation in which we live past and present. Just before she is to head to Václav Havel Airport to catch a flight, political journalist Audrey Newhouse is given a last minute assignment in Prague by her editor: to interview actor Rupert Turner about his just released book which covers his years long correspondence with fellow actor John F. Donovan, who passed away approximately ten years ago from a drug overdose, with John and Rupert never having met despite that correspondence. At the time of the correspondence, John, a generation older, was an established star on television, he a series' lead portraying a mortal superhero of sorts, while Rupert was an adolescent/preteen schoolchild, he and his single mother at the time having moved overseas to Harrow in Metropolitan London. It was also a correspondence which neither John or Rupert had mentioned to anyone else until several years into it, those on Rupert's side of the story incredulous as to the authenticity of his claims, he already bullied at school which only increased because of it. It is an assignment that Audrey does not much want in not having read the book, in not being a "fluff" entertainment reporter, and believing, what little she knows of the book, Rupert, and John, the book itself a vanity piece for self-promotion. As Rupert tells his and John's respective stories, much of the latter from needing to read between the lines of the correspondence and knowing what happened to John, and the seeming parallels between the two letter writers a generation in age apart, Rupert tries to convince Audrey of the importance of the book, not only for himself as he saw the correspondence as saving him, but to others who may read it.—Huggo
